Williams: Oldest Photo in Collection

Updated 8/27/2013:  All of the pictures can be found at https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/105520545719890010437/albums/5916827123719714305

The oldest photo in the collection is of Alta's great-great grandparents, Jeremiah and Mary (Ewart) Williams.
(NOTE:  The Williams do not yet appear on Altia Staley's pedigree.  They are the grand parents of Alonzo Boyers.  8/9/2013)

Jeremiah and Mary (Ewart) Williams
The Williams were from Kentucky and were among the first settlers in the New Martinsville, WV area. According to Bernard Staley, they were slave holders in KY and brought at least one slave with them to western Virginia.  West Virginia became a free state during the Civil War and the Williams family traveled between KY and WV during this time.  William and Mary had children that inherited land in WV and made homes in Wetzel county.

William and Mary are buried at Williams cemetery in New Martinsville, WV.  The Williams Cemetery website lists the following data for them:

Williams, Jeremiah

Feb 14,1761

Feb 6,1845

PfC in Capt. J. McFarland's Co- Rev. War

Williams, Mary

1776

1867

w/o Jeremiah Williams

An ex-slave of the Williams Family is reported to be buried in this cemetery, as well.

(NOTE:  I wonder if this photo is a later copy taken from an earlier photo.  There are two copies of the photo framed in the same manner in the collection.  Also, my brief internet research found that few photos survived from before the Civil War due to paper printing photo techniques used.  JSC)
